Vacationing with Teens

Does your family vacation with teenagers turn into week of arguing and attitude, instead of fun and relaxation? If so, here are some helpful tips from the staff at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa to make your next family vacation a happy one.

Balance the day with downtime and activities. Many young adults don’t like spending the entire day lounging by the pool or on the beach—activities are key to keep them from boredom. On the other hand, you need to give your teen time to relax, so don’t fill the entire day with a string of activities.

Give your teen some space. Teenagers do not want to be chained to their mom and dad the entire vacation. Many resorts, including ours, offer teen specific clubs that allow them to cut loose and spend time with other teens. Our Core Zone Teens Club offers nightly entertainment including mixers and bonfires, a snack bar serving non-alcoholic drinks and food, and a vast array of daily activities.

Food is a great pacifier. Teenagers seem to always be hungry, so make sure your teen is getting plenty to eat because a decrease in blood sugar levels equals an increase in attitude. Make sure your teens know all of the food options available, so they can easily snack when they want.  Even if your kid is snacking all day, don’t forget to schedule a family dinner or lunch that will allow your whole family to regroup and discuss the day’s activities.

Hopefully these tips will help to make your next family vacation an enjoyable one!

A Guest Review of Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa

You can be sure to expect a trip full of Unlimited-Fun® when you visit us at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa! In fact, to show you how much fun you can have, we wanted to share a recent review from one of our guests. If you’ve stayed with us recently or are planning to stay with us in the future, be sure to tell us what you think on Trip Advisor and our Facebook page!

Had a Great Time at Sunscape

Our family visited Sunscape and had the best vacation. We have stayed at other All-inclusive resorts and this resort was far above the rest. The food was excellent. Jose in the restaurant goes above and beyond to make sure each and every meal you have is a wonderful experience. We had a large group (16) and every night we were able to sit together and were served quickly. The breakfast buffet is especially great and was something to look forward to each and every morning. Also, the espresso bar was an extra special treat. You could order an espresso, mocha or latte anytime. There were small sandwiches and treats available there all day long. The barista was always smiling and happy to serve whatever drink you requested. Gabby at the kids club is very friendly and kids adore her. She has more energy than I have ever seen. Simon at the bar is always smiling and offers the best drinks. Alberto with the entertainment group went above and beyond to make sure we all had fun at the pool and the beach with many fun activities including beach volleyball, pool volleyball, walking on water, water balloon fights that included anyone who wanted to participate and bungee jumping.

The staff at this resort work very, very hard. They work long days in hot weather and are constantly cleaning. They are always smiling and asking if there is anything they can do for you. They are also very honest. My son lost a little water wallet in the pool that had money in it. The sunscape staff went out of their way to return the wallet to our room with the money inside when we assumed it was lost in the ocean.

We felt very safe and loved that there were guards at the front entrace and the beach entrace during all the hours. At other all inclusive resorts you have to stand in line early in the morning and fight for a seat at a sit down restaurant instead of a buffet. Not here……each night you have your choice of 3 restaurants and two of those are always sit down and not buffet. You never need a reservation.

Explore La Chole Archaeological Site

There’s so much to do and see when visiting us at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa! Guests at our resort have the opportunity to go on a number of excursions including one that lets them explore the archaeological site, La Chole.

Located just 25 minutes from Ixtapa, La Chole or La Soledad de Maciel is a small village with about 350 people and 80 houses. Since 1930, many artifacts have been found in this small town, including the King of La Chole stele and Mesoamerican ball court rings. However, formal excavation has only recently begun. In fact, in 2008, the federal government assigned archeologists to excavate the area and report their findings. To date, artifacts and jewelry found have been linked to cultures such as Tarascan, Aztec, Toltec and Olmec.

While some artifacts are in the Zihuatanejo Museum of La Costa Grande, La Chole now has its own new museum for people to visit. If you’re interested in an excursion to La Chole during your stay with us, simply stop by our activities desk upon arrival and our staff will be happy to help you plan your trip!

Mardi Gras Madness at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico!

On Fat Tuesday, Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa was transformed into The Big Easy as everyone celebrated Mardi Gras! Guests collected beads, watched street performers, ate creole delicacies, and danced to jazz music at a New Orleans-themed party. Kids decorated masks at the Explorer’s Club, and got their faces painted in green, yellow and purple. The day culminated in a resort-wide parade, lead by a Sunscape-style turtle float!

5 Tips for a Fun Family Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day isn’t just a time to celebrate the love between couples. It’s also a time to celebrate the love between families. Here at Sunscape Resorts & Spas, we value family time together and always aim to ensure that the moms, dads and kids visiting our resort have Unlimited-Fun® while they stay with us!

For the lucky families visiting us this special holiday, we have plenty of fun activities planned for everyone to enjoy. However, if you’re unable to be with us, there’s still plenty of fun to be had at home. Below are a five tips for making this Valentine’s Day a special and fun-filled holiday for everyone at home!

Create a Fun Dinner at Home: Make your kid’s favorite dinner, even if it is hot dogs and mac & cheese, and eat together as a family. Feeling crafty? You can even decorate your house with balloons, and red and pink crepe paper.

Bake Valentine’s Day Treats: Get out the baking supplies and let everyone chip in to help! Bake cookies, cakes or brownies and then decorate them with red icing or candy hearts.

Read Together: Choose a book your whole family will enjoy and read it out loud. You may even want to pick a book with a love theme such as the classic, “Love You, Forever” written by Robert N. Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw.

Take a Family Portrait: Have everyone dress in their favorite red or pink shirt and take a family photo then place it in a heart-shaped frame or make your own frames. You will have this to cherish for Valentine’s Days for years to come.

Donate to a Good Cause: Express your love for your community by making a donation to a charity. For example, make a donation in your children’s names to the American Heart Association or gather old clothes and shoes and donate them to the less fortunate.

Unlimited-Fun® With The Game of Bocce

Fun, fun and more fun–we’re all about Unlimited-Fun® at Sunscape Resorts & Spas. Our energetic Entertainment Tem aims to keep guests pleased each and everyday with games, shows and sporting events. One of our most popular activities, which takes place almost every afternoon, is Bocce.

Bocce is one of the oldest games known to mankind. There’s evidence that as early as 5000 B.C., the Egyptians played Bocce with polished rocks. However, the early Romans were the ones who played the game most closely to the way we do today.

How to Play:

Bocce is played with eight large balls and one smaller ball, called the pallino. The game can be played with 2, 4, or 8 players.  Once the number of players is decided, divide the bocce balls evenly between them. The purpose of the game is to get your bocce balls as close to the pallino as possible. Points will be awarded based on the distance of a player’s balls from the pallino.

To begin, choose a player at random to throw the pallino. This player must also throw the first bocce ball. After the first player has thrown his first bocce ball, he is now as the “inside” player and will not throw again until someone throws his or her ball closer to the pallino. Once someone throws closer to the pallino, he is now considered the “inside” player. The “inside” player cannot throw twice in a row.

After all players have thrown their bocce balls, points will be awarded to the “inside” player whose ball is closest to the pallino. One point will be awarded for every ball that is closer to the pallino than his or her closest competitor’s ball.  The game is won when a player reaches 13 points.
