There’s so much to do and see when visiting us at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa! Guests at our resort have the opportunity to go on a number of excursions including one that lets them explore the archaeological site, La Chole.
Located just 25 minutes from Ixtapa, La Chole or La Soledad de Maciel is a small village with about 350 people and 80 houses. Since 1930, many artifacts have been found in this small town, including the King of La Chole stele and Mesoamerican ball court rings. However, formal excavation has only recently begun. In fact, in 2008, the federal government assigned archeologists to excavate the area and report their findings. To date, artifacts and jewelry found have been linked to cultures such as Tarascan, Aztec, Toltec and Olmec.
While some artifacts are in the Zihuatanejo Museum of La Costa Grande, La Chole now has its own new museum for people to visit. If you’re interested in an excursion to La Chole during your stay with us, simply stop by our activities desk upon arrival and our staff will be happy to help you plan your trip!
