Earth Hour at Sunscape Dorado Pacifico

At Sunscape Resorts & Spas, we believe in working toward a sustainable future. For that reason, Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Cancun participated in Earth Hour, an international declaration against the dangers of climate change. Earth Hour’s website defines the worldwide movement:

Hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world unite each year to support the largest environmental event in history – Earth Hour.

More than 6,950 cities and towns in 152 countries and territories switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2012, sending a powerful message for action to save the planet. This year marked the continuation of the movement going Beyond the Hour, with more than 200,000 individuals accepting I Will If You Will challenges on YouTube to turn their symbolic action for the planet into an ongoing commitment to a sustainable future.”

Before they turned off the lights, the Entertainment Staff gave a presentation to resort guests about the importance of conservation, including what children learned that day while at the Explorer’s Club.

Kids decorated masks at the Explorer’s Club, and got their faces painted in green, yellow and purple. The day culminated in a resort-wide parade, lead by a Sunscape-style turtle float!

5 Tips for a Fun Family Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day isn’t just a time to celebrate the love between couples. It’s also a time to celebrate the love between families. Here at Sunscape Resorts & Spas, we value family time together and always aim to ensure that the moms, dads and kids visiting our resort have Unlimited-Fun® while they stay with us!

For the lucky families visiting us this special holiday, we have plenty of fun activities planned for everyone to enjoy. However, if you’re unable to be with us, there’s still plenty of fun to be had at home. Below are a five tips for making this Valentine’s Day a special and fun-filled holiday for everyone at home!

Create a Fun Dinner at Home: Make your kid’s favorite dinner, even if it is hot dogs and mac & cheese, and eat together as a family. Feeling crafty? You can even decorate your house with balloons, and red and pink crepe paper.

Bake Valentine’s Day Treats: Get out the baking supplies and let everyone chip in to help! Bake cookies, cakes or brownies and then decorate them with red icing or candy hearts.

Read Together: Choose a book your whole family will enjoy and read it out loud. You may even want to pick a book with a love theme such as the classic, “Love You, Forever” written by Robert N. Munsch and illustrated by Sheila McGraw.

Take a Family Portrait: Have everyone dress in their favorite red or pink shirt and take a family photo then place it in a heart-shaped frame or make your own frames. You will have this to cherish for Valentine’s Days for years to come.

Donate to a Good Cause: Express your love for your community by making a donation to a charity. For example, make a donation in your children’s names to the American Heart Association or gather old clothes and shoes and donate them to the less fortunate.

Unlimited-Fun® With The Game of Bocce

Fun, fun and more fun–we’re all about Unlimited-Fun® at Sunscape Resorts & Spas. Our energetic Entertainment Tem aims to keep guests pleased each and everyday with games, shows and sporting events. One of our most popular activities, which takes place almost every afternoon, is Bocce.

Bocce is one of the oldest games known to mankind. There’s evidence that as early as 5000 B.C., the Egyptians played Bocce with polished rocks. However, the early Romans were the ones who played the game most closely to the way we do today.

How to Play:

Bocce is played with eight large balls and one smaller ball, called the pallino. The game can be played with 2, 4, or 8 players.  Once the number of players is decided, divide the bocce balls evenly between them. The purpose of the game is to get your bocce balls as close to the pallino as possible. Points will be awarded based on the distance of a player’s balls from the pallino.

To begin, choose a player at random to throw the pallino. This player must also throw the first bocce ball. After the first player has thrown his first bocce ball, he is now as the “inside” player and will not throw again until someone throws his or her ball closer to the pallino. Once someone throws closer to the pallino, he is now considered the “inside” player. The “inside” player cannot throw twice in a row.

After all players have thrown their bocce balls, points will be awarded to the “inside” player whose ball is closest to the pallino. One point will be awarded for every ball that is closer to the pallino than his or her closest competitor’s ball.  The game is won when a player reaches 13 points.
